Cloud subscriptions and Enterprise licences (single sign-on, SCIM, company memory, File Search and support, in the commercially licensed ee/ directories) pay for the commercial side, so grant money is not spent on hosting or sales. Every euro of funding goes to the open-source part, the AGPL-3.0 gateway, agent harness and connector catalog that anyone may self-host for free, commercial use included, and the results land in the public repository.
