CartCut is an open source desktop video editor built so that AI coding agents can edit video through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) while a person reviews and finishes the work on a normal timeline. It runs locally on top of FFmpeg, keeps media on the user's machine, and ships as a notarised macOS app with plugins for agent tools.
Usage (GitHub, 7 Nov 2026): 826 stars, 79 forks, more than 1,000 commits since 2022 (first released as 'nugget'), 12 releases between 9 Sep and 27 Oct 2026, and about 1,200 downloads of release installers and update packages. Open issues ask for Linux support and report Windows export bugs.
What funding sustains:
1) Cross-platform. Fix Windows path and export bugs and ship Linux builds, so the editor is not macOS-only.
2) Release infrastructure. Apple notarisation and Windows code signing, and CI that tests all three platforms.
3) Agent interoperability. Keep the MCP server working across Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and other MCP clients, with a public test suite.
4) Documentation and accessibility. English and Korean tutorials and accessibility fixes in the editor.
